Essay on Criminal Justice and Violent Female Offenders part 3

Article on Criminal Justice and Violent Female Offenders section 3 Article on Criminal Justice and Violent Female Offenders section 3 Paper on Criminal Justice and Violent Female Offenders part 3Essay on  Criminal Justice and Violent Female Offenders part 2Violent female wrongdoings possess a little rate contrasted and men, it sums 7-10%. Thought processes of carrying out wrongdoings likewise essentially contrast. Savage female guilty parties as a rule carry out violations in view of desire, retribution, jealousy, and want to dispose of the person in question. That is, generally sincerely charged character. Numerous wrongdoings are carried out by ladies based on obviously characterized illegitimate conduct of casualties (â€Å"Gender and Crime Differences Between Male And Female Offending Patterns†, 2004).In late years, there is an expansion of such fierce violations perpetrated by ladies as murder and theft. A fascinating actuality is that there is additionally an ascent of rough wrongdoings submitted with specific cold-bloodedness, it tends to be clarified by the difference in the social job of ladies, t he demolition of the family coming about with mental uncertainties of ladies, do not have the fundamental child rearing abilities, women’s reliance on different sorts of ominous winning circumstances.Infanticide is the hardship of life of an infant. This class of wrongdoings are submitted, most importantly, by young ladies, who are ineffectively adjusted to present day life, without any methods for work and homes. Child murder happen frequently in country territories where there isn't sufficient of clinical hardware for early finding and end of undesirable pregnancies. Certain impacts are brought about by the detachment of contraceptives, ignorance of young ladies youngsters, absence of basic sex education.Criminological attributes of brutal female guilty parties are additionally explicit. When in doubt, there is a power of more seasoned people, contrasted and men, in spite of the way that as a rule, as of late there has been a revival of crooks. The instructive degree of fem ale guilty parties has consistently been higher than that of male hoodlums. Be that as it may, there has been noticed a development in number of guilty parties among people with higher education. These are only a portion of the highlights and contrasts of female culpability. Over the ongoing years there has been a noteworthy increment in all out wrongdoing and female violations. Notwithstanding the distinctions, female culpability mirrors the general examples of wrongdoing and its changes. It goes about as a subsystem of general wrongdoing and is naturally connected with it.Discussing female culpability, we can't quit referencing their lives in the wake of being indicted. American penitentiaries confine a bigger number of individuals than some other nation on the planet. Review of the sources shows that the most pertinent to the United States jail framework are issues of adjustment of convicts in jail, carrying out a punishment sex issues, just as racial and ethnic showdown in prison s.It ought to be noticed that researchers are effectively examining the procedure of adjustment and versatile conduct of detainees in penitentiaries. In this way, Donald Clemmer in his book Prison Community features the wonder of prisonization, ie long haul adjustment to the subculture of detained detainees, and partners it with the standards and estimations of the jail condition. Breaking down the substance of this marvel, D. Clemmer doesn't think about it as an outright power, and interfaces it with the jail rules, guidelines, and worth directions. Consequently, he finishes up various capacity to adjust to jail. D. Clemmer accepts that relying upon the estimations of the jail there are contrasts among detainees in the level of adjustment to the jail subculture.Criminologist G. Sykes found that in jail interests in keeping up command over the greater part of the detainees can coordinate among organization and jail pioneers. D. Irwin and D. Cressey were examining reasons for the cha llenges that brought up in killing the negative impacts of adjustment because of the impact of various worth directions in the criminal gatherings in prison.Analyzing the effect of various qualities on the conduct of detainees, J. Galtung attempts to reveal the normal response of detainees to the proportion of the jail subculture. The creator takes note of that the prisoner is effectively looking for contact with different detainees, and stresses the significance of common solidarity.Hofmann has made an endeavor to uncover the nature and job of intelligent procedures inside the complete establishments, remembering the accentuation for the potential qualities and industrialism of nature of the connection among staff and detainees of prison foundations, as these gatherings have various generalizations and live in various social universes. E. Hofmann accepts that jail, similar to some other organization takes out the all out self, objectives, plans, and positive adjustment among indict ed by the procurement of new subcultural examples of life in jail. In such manner, he uncovered not just the essential components (following getting the opportunity to imprison), yet in addition optional (focused on endurance in jail and turning affected by its subcultures) adjustment of the detainees. Segments of the inspirational circle have huge effect on the adjustment and conduct of the detainees (Langton, Truman, 2014).ConclusionViolence is characterized as: 1) the utilization of physical power to somebody; 2) the utilization of power, constrained effect on somebody, something; 3) the badgering, maltreatment of intensity, rebellious utilization of force.Criminal conduct of ladies has consistently been seen as a less difficult issue than male criminal conduct. Truly, females will in general carry out minor violations and have produced just a little amount of the general number of wrongdoers. Ten however ladies stay a generally limited quantity everything being equal, there is a pattern in rising measure of female guilty parties, their cooperation in wrongdoings associated with rough, and have repressed the expansion of sexual orientation explicit projects tending to the problem.During 2012, in the entire nation, law implementation made 12,196,959 captures (criminal traffic offenses are excluded), 26.2% of them were of females. In 2010, courts with adolescent purview held an expected 1,368,200 law-breaking cases in 2010, 28% of them were with female wrongdoers. By and large, female misconduct caseload raised at a normal pace of 2 percent for every year somewhere in the range of 1985 and 2010, while the normal rate expanded for under 1 percent for each year for guys. The quantity of female convicts expanded by 10.9% between midyear 2010 and 2013. In same period, the male detainee populace declined for 4.2% (Carson, 2014).There are a few speculations that legitimize the excess of female guiltiness to male culpability. The vast majority of them are of verifiab le intrigue as it were. A. Quetelet clarified less culpability of ladies by their physical shortcoming, yet in addition by the separation from open life, shut around of family duties. Be that as it may, with the consideration of more ladies in open life and expert exercises, just as in times of increasing wrongdoing, the extent of female wrongdoing in the general mass has consistently remained small.Another clarification for this wonder has been recommended by agents of the anthropological school C. Lombroso. Lower force of female guiltiness is related with the eccentricities of the female body and nature, to a limited degree with her organic immaturity. Most ladies have dominative characteristics that forestall the commission of wrongdoings, since the inspiration of female conduct is typically connected with the family. They are assurance of the family, the government assistance, physical and mental solace of the family. For this situation, obligation regarding the family is frequen tly likewise done by a lady. On account of these reasons, the life of a lady is somewhat contrary with crime, since she knows about her duty regarding kids, for the honesty and government assistance of the family. Casualties of fierce wrongdoings perpetrated by ladies, when in doubt, are spouses, flat mates, kids and close family members, which is likewise associated with a reality that ladies are more appended to the family than men.In general, thinking about the issue of particularity of female culpability, we ought to continue from the reason that any criminal conduct, paying little heed to who carries out it, is social and chronicled marvel, the subjective highlights of which are reflected in the social space. In this manner, sexual orientation contrasts of wrongdoings ought to be viewed as dependent on the attributes of culture.Disparity in the treatment of lawbreakers associated with the arrangement of criminal equity has been the subject of a considerable number of examinatio n over the previous decades. Likely, the most convincing proof of divergence is found in the socioeconomics among the convicts in government and state jails in the United States. Most detainees in our countries penitentiaries are men, generally dark or Hispanic. These incongruities in paces of detainment, which have been noted for over three decades, have made analysts to concentrate on the condemning phase of criminal equity process. They additionally have driven policymakers scan for courses so as to oblige legal caution while sentencing. There are two musings on the issue if criminal equity framework has a sex predisposition and if people are dealt with diversely in courts and police. The initial one is gallantry theory, where valor is rewarding others, generally ladies with politeness, regard and compassion. As indicated by valor hypothesis ladies are dealt with all the more mercifully by the arrangement of criminal equity than men. Male valor implies that frequently police are mo re averse to charge females, and courts will in general give them a lighter sentence, even in circumstances when they have carried out indistinguishable wrongdoings from men.The second hypothesis is called twofold abnormality hypothesis. As indicated by this hypothesis, criminal equity framework treats ladies all the more cruelly in light of the fact that they are blameworthy of being doubly degenerate. They strayed from standards acknowledged by society by violating the law and, simultaneously, veered off from sexual orientation standards, which tell how lady ought to behave.M

Once Upon a Time Essay

‘Once Upon a Time’, was composed by Gabriel Okara, who is a Nigerian artist. He frequently clarifies what happens when a conventional African culture meets the powers of the Western lifestyle. I think the sonnet was composed to layout the phony characters of numerous individuals and to attempt to get them to come back to a characteristic and guiltless state. The sonnet recounts the discussion between what is by all accounts a dad and child, where the dad needs to gain from his child how to return to typicality and never again be phony. The sonnet begins by the dad telling his child how, ‘once upon a time’, individuals, or ‘they’, ‘used to chuckle with their hearts’. I believe that the word ‘they’ alludes to western individuals who are white. Likewise this depiction gives the impression of real feeling radiated by the individuals. He at that point proceeds onward to state that now they just, ‘laugh with their teeth, while their ice-square virus eyes search behind his shadow’. This emits negative, phony and bogus sentiments and it is a freezing portrayal. This influences the tone of the sonnet that currently gets vile and severe. Refrain two at that point uncovers a greater amount of the past when it is said that, ‘they used to warmly greet their hearts’, again this picture uncovers valid and certifiable feeling. Be that as it may, similarly as in the main Stanza the current the truth is then talked about when it is said that, ‘that has gone, presently they just shake hands without hearts while their left hands search his void pockets’. This shows, again the individuals are phony and appear to utilize the man to perceive what they can get. Sonnet Stanza Four Presents the Adaptations and Solutions. Refrain three at that point goes to clarify increasingly about the progressions he has seen in these bogus individuals. Again the Stanza begins positive with the expressions, ‘feel at home’, ‘come again’, yet then proceeds to state that he will come back once more, ‘once, twice’ yet there will ‘be no more thrice’ for then ‘I discover entryways shut on me’. This shows the individuals lie when they state the positive expressions and after a couple of visits they have all that they need from the man; their wrongness is reflected in the language they use. The initial three Stanzas have a similar structure. They start by telling the past and disclosing how things used to be, yet then they tell the negative reality. I think this is utilized to analyze the occasions and acquaint the peruser with the circumstance. Verse four presents the adjustments and arrangements that the man has found to counter the issues. It begins by saying that the man has, ‘learned numerous things’, previously recommending that he has changed to fit in. He at that point clarifies the things he has learnt. He recounts the bogus characters or of his ‘many faces’. He advises that he has figured out how to ‘wear’ these appearances, recommending that he wears faces for various circumstances. For instance, he says he has a, ‘office-face, road face, and host-face, demonstrating that he demonstrations distinctively under various conditions. He at that point includes that they have, ‘conforming grins, similar to a fixed portrait’. This proposes significantly more wrongness and changes. Sonnet Stanza Five: Learned to Laugh With Only His Teeth. Verse five of the sonnet recounts the phony ascribes to oblige the phony looks. It additionally rehashes a portion of the demonstrations that were referenced before in the sonnet. Reiteration is by all accounts a key method in this sonnet. He says that he has likewise, ‘learned to chuckle with just his teeth’ and ‘shakes hands without his heart’. This recommends he has replicated the western ways as this is the thing that they did before in the sonnet. He at that point goes significantly further by saying he has figured out how to state, ‘Goodbye’ when he implies, ‘Good-riddance’ and ‘Glad to meet you, without being glad’. I believe that the man is embarrassed about himself and is admitting to his child how far the phony perspectives have created, he appears to detest what he has done. Verse six and seven at that point show the man indicating his lament as he says, â€Å"I need to be what I used to be the point at which I resembled you†, demonstrating that he needs to be completely forthright and honest once more.

25 Thesis Statement Examples That Will Make Writing a Breeze

25 Thesis Statement Examples That Will Make Writing a Breeze Understanding what makes a good thesis statement is one of the major keys to writing a great research paper or argumentative essay. The thesis statement is where you make a claim that will guide you through your entire paper. If you find yourself struggling to make sense of your paper or your topic, then its likely due to a weak thesis statement.Lets take a minute to first understand what makes a solid thesis statement, and what key components you need to write one of your own.A thesis statement always goes at the beginning of the paper. It will typically be in the first couple of paragraphs of the paper so that it can introduce the body paragraphs, which are the supporting evidence for your thesis statement.Your thesis statement should clearly identify an argument. You need to have a statement that is not only easy to understand, but one that is debatable. What that means is that you cant just put any statement of fact and have it be your thesis. For example, everyone knows that pup pies are cute. An ineffective thesis statement would be, Puppies are adorable and everyone knows it. This isnt really something thats a debatable topic.Something that would be more debatable would be, A puppys cuteness is derived from its floppy ears, small body, and playfulness. These are three things that can be debated on. Some people might think that the cutest thing about puppies is the fact that they follow you around or that theyre really soft and fuzzy. All cuteness aside, you want to make sure that your thesis statement is not only debatable, but that it also actually thoroughly answers the research question that was posed. You always want to make sure that your evidence is supporting a claim that you made (and not the other way around). This is why its crucial to read and research about a topic first and come to a conclusion later. If you try to get your research to fit your thesis statement, then it may not work out as neatly as you think. As you learn more, you discover m ore (and the outcome may not be what you originally thought).Additionally, your thesis statement shouldnt be too big or too grand. Itll be hard to cover everything in a thesis statement like, The federal government should act now on climate change. The topic is just too large to actually say something new and meaningful. Instead, a more effective thesis statement might be, Local governments can combat climate change by providing citizens with larger recycling bins and offering local classes about composting and conservation. This is easier to work with because its a smaller idea, but you can also discuss the overall topic that you might be interested in, which is climate change. So, now that we know what makes a good, solid thesis statement, you can start to write your own. If you find that youre getting stuck or you are the type of person who needs to look at examples before you start something, then check out our list of thesis statement examples below.Thesis statement examplesA qu ick note that these thesis statements have not been fully researched. These are merely examples to show you what a thesis statement might look like and how you can implement your own ideas into one that you think of independently. Identity and Belonging Witness Free Essays

‘Where we come from and our attitude to it are powerful forces in our lives. ’ â€Å"This gun of the hand is for the taking of human life. We believe it is wrong to take a life. We will write a custom essay sample on Identity and Belonging: Witness or any similar topic only for you Order Now That is only for God. † The conflicting notions and difference between cultures is thoroughly represented throughout Peter Weir’s stunning and thematically moving film ‘Witness’ in which two different worlds with two different value systems are profoundly presented to its viewers. Having a sense of belonging is essential to identity; it is a basic human instinct to belong and to have faith in certain beliefs, the preoccupations meaningfully explored within Weir’s creations. Moreover, through the use of film techniques and representation, Weir has managed to captivate and compel his audience to indulge into the hardships and strategic traditions in which the Amish community follow and also allows the audience to gain a further understanding to the extreme disciplinary law of the ‘Ordnung. The protagonist, John Book, faces a tedious journey to bring justice to contemptible crime and must undergo an ultimate sacrifice of ‘changing his ways,’ which would cause a crucial disregard to all his life lessons that have shaped and guided him, in order to gain the acceptance he subsequently strives for from his ‘former carers’ and unique counterparts of the Amish community. Book also faces the riveting dilemma to assert or deny his d isreputable love with Rachel as well as apprehend where he truly belongs. Weir’s film is positioned between two worlds; the good and the evil, decency and corruption, head and heart, the Amish and the ‘English’. Throughout the film, the complexities of parallel worlds are explored where the different worlds begin to sporadically intertwine. ‘We want nothing to do with your laws,’ at the beginning of the film when Rachel first becomes subject to Detective John Book’s questioning and police procedures, she is taken out of her comfort zone and is presented with a world she knows not of. Rachel is more so driven by the forceful nature of her own predecessors and ‘elders’ which intuitively leads to her attitude of not wanting to abide by the laws of a different world from her own. The passiveness of the Amish is explored as they are depicted as being self-cast as outsiders, basing their lives solely on natural things due to their own stringent belief that it will bring them closer to God. Furthermore, the audience is able to gain an insight to the cultural restrictions in which the Amish live by; living in a rural society where there are no radios, telephones, or televisions, where the only means of transportation is a horse and buggy, and where one dresses to look â€Å"plain. † The depiction of the Amish community in the film is extraordinarily contrasted with the modern contemporary society of the Americans, otherwise known as ‘the English’ by the Amish people. Book’s world is portrayed as being the human function of corruption where ‘somewhere along the way [cops] lose their meaning. ’ Book is inevitably accustomed to deceit, brutality and violence that it consumes him and is the very essence in which drives him forward and acts accountable for his actions. He is inescapably surrounded by it, so much so that he is not completely oblivious to the corruption occurring within the very organisation that is meant to oppose it, his own police department. Book’s duty to investigate corruption within his police department leaves him shot. This violence from Book’s own world and place of belonging is what ironically leads to him going into hiding amongst the Amish people in order for him to protect Rachel and Samuel. He is significantly driven by his job of policing that it acts as a powerful force in his life in which he is suited to, ‘[Elaine] thinks you like policing because you think you are right about everything and you’re the only one who can do anything†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ Evidently, Book is quite complacent living his own life in his contemporary society as it composes of his identity and sense of belonging. At a further contrast, the contemporary society of the Americans deem to be utterly dependant on technology, not just as helpful tools but also for ones own sense of luxury. In the film, when Book is in town with Eli accompanied by other Amish they are ambushed by tourists who simply treat them as though they are placed there for their own amusement, the Amish are not acknowledged as being actual human beings. The tourists bombard them with taking photos and Book does not follow the placid way of the Amish, ‘Lady, you take my picture with that thing and I’m gonna rip your brassiere off†¦ nd strangle you with it! You got that? ’ Though Book attempts to conform to the ways of the Amish he is still so accustomed to his old ways that where he comes from is his own sense of belonging. Furthermore, Book’s trial of ‘fitting in’ with the Amish is ultimately tested when he cannot rid himself of his urban assertiveness and simply turns to violence w hen a group of ‘townies’ harass Daniel Hochleitner, of the Amish, to which Book violently punches one of them in the face though ‘it’s not our way [of the Amish]. Book is fundamentally fixed in his ways, ‘it’s my way,’ and initially disregards his attempts to fit in with the Amish and gain their acceptance. Consequently, Book’s violent actions lead to Schaeffer and his despicable partners being able to locate and track down where Book is staying in hiding. Though Book has sufficiently failed in his attempts to conform to the ways of the Amish, it is evident that he finally makes a connection with the Amish community during the traditional barn-raising scene in the film where Book helps out and realises that for the Amish, community is more important than any other modern necessity. Despite Book’s connection with the Amish he is still mildly branded as an outsider to their community and is only truly accepted through the eyes of Rachel. During the course of the film, Book and Rachel begin to grow affectionate for one another. The attraction between the two only grows stronger as the film progresses and Weir uses intended camera angles and film techniques to represent a change in the status quo. When Book and Rachel are together, they are always filmed through doorways. Book is depicted as always being in the doorway, symbolising that he cannot get past it whereas Rachel is always in through it. However, as the attraction grows stronger, specifically after they kiss, Book talks to Rachel through the door of chicken wire, the holes in the wire imply that Book can now get through to the Amish community yet some of his own identity and predispositions will always remain behind the chicken wire. More so the attraction is shown within the scene in the barn in which Book is fixing his car with his radio on, an ultimate defiance of the ways of the Amish, to which Rachel responds positively. They begin to dance and although Book appreciates the moment, he does not fully understand that he is breaching the wishes of the elders in the community and ominously causes Rachel to act in such a manner which is stupendously frowned upon by her peers. Despite Eli’s warning that she will be â€Å"shunned† if she becomes too close to John, Rachel defiantly gives in to her feelings for the outsider. Though they come from two different worlds, hold different values, nd live different lives, their emotions and feelings towards one another prove to be the same. Eventually Book comes to terms with his limitations and realises that he does not belong in Lancaster County with Rachel despite his utmost attempts to try and change himself in order to belong. Book remains too dependant on things from his world and his reliance on technology bounds him. The life lessons and fixed ways in which Book continuously holds onto prove to a big part of his identity that to completely disr egard them would be a vital sacrifice. His attempts to try and belong with the Amish are boldly thwarted by his own understanding of his significant influence on young Samuel, ‘I would only kill the bad man. ’ His very presence brings danger and the aspect of life in which the Amish try to avoid, that is, murder. The place in which one comes from, one’s home and upbringing, proves to be a powerful force in one’s life. Having a place to belong is essential to identity and life lessons taught prove to be guidance throughout life. It is essential to belong and people will try and change themselves in order to feel as though they fit in. However, to merge two completely different worlds together would be controversial and ultimately unprincipled. The love shared between Book and Rachel would never work because they were two different, they were bestowed with different values, different upbringings and essentially different morals. Book could never stay with the Amish, â€Å"He’s going back to his world, where he belongs. He knows it, and you know it, too. † How to cite Identity and Belonging: Witness, Essay examples

Hip Hop Exploitation of Black Women free essay sample

Two videos correlated to my research paper. One in particular is called the Dreamless 3: Desire, Sex and power in music video. This video written by Suit Shall, examines the representation of women, men, and sexuality in music videos. In essence, the purpose of this video is to assert that music videos, not unlike other forms of advertising and popular culture, represent the pornographic Image by offering a degraded and limited view of female sexuality based on narrowly defined adolescent heterosexual male fantasies. In greater detail, this film Is fairly modern and encompasses the similar Instances of how not only women, but both male and females are gazed upon through music videos. This film Is very popular for addressing the video Tip Drill, which Is a term that refers to women having sex with multiple men In exchange for money. T. And MET. Another film that relates to this topic is called Beyond, Beats, and Rhymes by Byron Hurt. I saw this film in my African American Studies 248 course and was immediately intrigued by the way in which this film examines manhood, homophobia in the hip hop culture, and last but not least, sexism. Both of these films have a lot of similarities such as challenging the way in which hip hop has changed for the worst and poses questions as to how we can fix it back to its natural root.

Does Transforming trash into recyclable items help our country

With the increasing visible effects of environmental degradation, the need to use recyclables has become an integral part of every day’s campaigns aimed at preserving the environment from further degradation.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Does Transforming trash into recyclable items help our country? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More These like efforts have risen because of the realization by human beings that the world is at the verge of destruction as more and more wastes and gases have continued to accumulate in the environment. Prior to the realization of the significance of using recyclables, most individuals viewed using of recyclables only as mechanism of utilizing well natural resources. With the increasing depletion of this natural resources and the need to find better ways of preserving the environment, most people nowadays appreciate the need to convert trash into recyclable materials for use. Recycling is primarily the process of converting used materials into some raw material form after which the raw materials are reprocessed into some usable form. Recyclables play an integral role of saving a country’s environment, energy, natural resources, and foreign spending, which in most cases is in from of imports (Arms 1-7). Therefore, the process of converting trash into recyclables is of great significance to the well being of a nation not only in terms of environmental safety, but also politically and economically. Environmental degradation is one of the worst threats to the survival of not only future generations, but also present ones, because of the numerous calamities that have faced most global communities over the recent past. Such calamities have resulted from the increasing pollution levels in the environment, which have triggered environmental hazards such as floods and diseases. When these like calamities strike, the government is usually forced to sp end millions of dollars to cater for needs of the affected; funds which can be used in other important development projects. One thing that most individuals do not recognize is that, although most waste materials, which are either burnt or disposed off to the environment are not biodegradable, such materials can be recycled and be converted into other useful forms. For example, although most plastic materials are recyclable, most individuals have a tendency of burning them instead of reprocessing them.Advertising Looking for term paper on ecology? However, through encouraging recycling the government saves millions of dollars, which were previously spent on pollution related hazards (Adams 1). The process of converting waste into useful materials has also numerous ec onomic advantages. To start with, recycling promotes proper utilization resources. Due to the fact that most non-biodegradable materials can be converted into other useful forms, recycling is one of the primary methodologies of reducing wastage of resources. Therefore, through converting thrash into recyclable items, a government is able to preserve its resources or convert them into different development initiatives. A second economic significance of converting wastes into recyclable items is the minimization of expenditure on production processes, which require fresh supplies of raw materials. For example, instead of using tress to produce paper, the recycling process has helped the government to reprocess used paper into more usable paper at a cheaper cost, than producing them from fresh trees. This process is cost effective as compared to the former, as it has offered the government an opportunity of recreating value in waste papers. Reprocessing recyclable materials also has he lped societies to cut down costs, which are associated with the disposing process in addition to saving numerous acres of land used as landfills. On the other hand, recycling plants are one of the primary job creators, as these industries have offered numerous Americans job opportunities; hence, boosting their quality of life. Further, just like any other goods, recyclable materials have also a wide market all over the world. Hence, export proceeds from these goods are one of the primary boosters of the economy, as proceeds from this industry have surpassed returns from most manufacturing and processing industries. For example, recycling of recycled aluminum is one the most profitable industrial goods in the U.S., because of their multiple uses in the car and can manufacturing industries (Douglas County Solid Waste Department 1-2). In addition to the economic and environmental significance of converting wastes into recyclable items is a sign of patriotism, as it helps nations to avo id overdependence on imported resources. Currently, as result of the thirty percent recycling rate of the government, the national government preserves more than five billion gallons of oil annually. This has helped the government to cut down the dependence on oil imports by one hundred and fourteen barrels; hence, securing the independence of United States from dependence on foreign energy resources.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Does Transforming trash into recyclable items help our country? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Closely related to this is the ethical significance of recycling. As per the World pollution statistics, United States is one of the major world environmental polluters. Although this might be the case, the continuous importance placed by the U.S. government on any environmental conservation effort more so on the significance of converting wastes into recyclable items has built the r eputation of the America as a whole politically, as a nation which values the well being of the living species (Cindy 1). In conclusion, the benefits associated with converting trash into recyclables are of great significance not only to the U.S. government, but also to other global societies. As a result of these, there is need for all global communities to adopt the practice of recycling materials that are recyclable, it being one of the primary methods of saving the environment from further degradation. Facts are More Important Than Being First

Facts are More Important Than Being First Facts are More Important Than Being First Facts are More Important Than Being First By Mark Nichol Thanks to technology, everyone who wants to be a writer and publisher can easily do so online. Unfortunately, this ease has resulted in a lot of unease about how information is disseminated. Early online information about the recent massacre of children and adults at a Connecticut school is a case in point. Initial reports identified the killer as a man named Ryan Lanza, though, as it turns out, Lanza’s younger brother, the real perpetrator of this horror, who killed himself, had apparently used his brother’s identification during the incident. But by the time this ruse was detected, the innocent brother had been harassed and threatened online by people who read or heard the inaccurate information, and he issued distraught denials on his Facebook page. Imagine the tragedy that would have occurred if some self-righteous vigilante, missing or ignoring his declaration of innocence, had stormed the elder Lanza’s home or office and killed him. In addition, reports varied about the number and type of guns the perpetrator used, prompting online debates about gun control based on the firepower and capacity of the weapons apparently used. Such careless argument before the facts are straight just confuses what is already an emotionally charged social issue. News media, including television and radio news programs and newspapers and magazines, sometimes make such mistakes, and when the information is significant, such sources retract it as soon as possible. Sometimes, it’s too late, and the damage is done. But usually, because of generally stringent standards for gathering facts for reporting, the erroneous information is never released in the first place. But now that virtually anyone, anywhere can post or otherwise disseminate mistaken â€Å"facts,† the risk of tragic consequences is multiplied. Even fairly innocuous information can be damaging, so take care when passing along a piece of news: 1. Before blogging or tweeting information, verify though reputable news sources or, better yet, directly from those involved that it is correct. (Two other ways of putting it: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is, and, more lightheartedly, if your mother tells you she loves you, check it out.) 2. Being correct is more important than being first. 3. Clearly distinguish fact from opinion in your own commentary, and be alert for your own biases. 4. If you do introduce or repeat misinformation, correct it as soon and as prominently as possible. 5. Most important, if you fail to heed any of these tips, learn from your failures so that next time, there is no next time. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Approaches against Fraudulent Activities Case Study

Approaches against Fraudulent Activities - Case Study Example Hence, even poorly performing firms obtained huge amounts of credits from MCI and this condition adversely affected MCI’s operational efficiency. When receivable collection periods went beyond the stipulated timeframe, the organization was forced to write off some of its receivables. Undoubtedly, this condition caused the firm to experience a rise in its expenses and thereby a decline in earnings per share. Ultimately, MCI’s stock price dropped due to the decline in EPS. As Lyon and Tocco (n. d.) point out, Pavlo used a variety of accounting tricks to convince the management that the level of bad debts and amount receivables had fallen under the safety range. In other words, Pavlo totally manipulated the accounting system to conceal the actual state of affairs of the company. It is obvious that the absence of a well-executed internal check system assisted Pavlo to apply unfair accounting tricks to deceive the company management. A person is not allowed to carry through a transaction from beginning to end under the internal check system. ... situation aided him to employ accounting malpractices such as ‘unapplied cash’ and ‘placeholder credits’ to conceal MCI’s actual financial status. Approaches against Fraudulent Activities If an individual suspects fraudulent activity within the organization where he works, it is advisable for him not to make any false allegation. In addition, he must never try to take any unfair advantage of that fraudulent activity. Every organization has a distinct corporate culture and hence a specific mechanism to report fraud. It is recommendable for the individual to strictly adhere to the accepted fraud reporting mechanism of the organization. If an individual suspects fraud in his organization, firstly he must make an immediate note of his concern. He should specifically try to note relevant details concerning the fraud including telephone conversations, date and time, or names of parties involved. Secondly, the individual has to report the fraud to someone wi th proper authority and experience. Generally, it is better to report fraud to line managers, internal auditors, or whistleblowers. In addition, fraud may be reported to the Monitoring Officer, Chief Executive, or the Director of Finance. The individual should not make any delay in reporting the suspected fraud to proper authorities because such a situation would cause the organization to suffer further financial loss. Finally, the individual should ensure that the authority has taken proper actions over his fraud report; otherwise, he must report the case to higher authorities. Under no circumstance, the individual can disclose his suspicion to public or any other unauthorized person.

Analysis of Globalization and Transnational Processes Literature review

Analysis of Globalization and Transnational Processes - Literature review Example Apart from the highly debatable claims about the diminished role f states, there are additional issues that theories f globalization face. For the focus on how globalization negates the very concept a center and periphery by generating diasporic public spaces tend to lead to an undertheorizing f the differentiated peripheries, which have disparate relationships with the various centers. This is an undertheorizing f the centers which, United States hegemony not-withstanding, are composed f a number f complexly hierarchized and contending entities, for example, in Scottish--English--Welsh relationships. It is, as well, an undertheorizing f the peripheries which also have complex hierarchical inter-ethnic, cultural, and sometimes racial inter-relationships, first fall within their own borders, then between themselves as peripheries, and, finally, with the various centers. In other words, in theorizing the undoubtedly new phenomenon f globalization, it is critical not to lose sight f the specifics f this process. There are complex and dynamic patterns f racial, ethnic, cultural, class, and social hierarchies that are being generated within particular societies and on a global scale. Sometimes these generate new hierarchical spaces, but often they reinforce old hegemonies within and between nations, without necessarily undermining the power f nation-states as such. Thus I have pointed out that globalization, as it restructures societies internally, simultaneously establishes and reinforces international hierarchy f races, ethnicities, cultures, and nations. Broadly speaking, this hierarchy is based on an international ranking according to political, economic, and cultural prestige and power. This is measured, for example, by such standard economic criteria as per capita gross national product rates f technical innovativeness, and the obvious consequences that economic and technical dominance has for global military dominance. This global racial-cultural hierarchy places Anglo-American culture at the apex and Sub-Saharan African culture at the base. Hegemony is exercised, the first fall, within the complex racial and cultural hierarchies internal to the United States and Europe, and through this route, extends itself globally. Latin, Slavic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindu, and other cultures (usually with their own complex and dynamic internal cultural, social, economic, and political hierarchies) jostle to occupy intermediate positions between the two extremes.  Ã‚

ZARA SWOT and Competitor Analysis

ZARA SWOT and Competitor Analysis In this age of advanced media and technology, where customers are flooded with marketing messages all the time, it is very hard for the businesses to progress efficiently without marketing and especially internet marketing due to quick adoption of internet and use of computer and others related devices. With a nominal investment on the website and web based marketing, lots of new markets and customers can be attracted through this marketing technique. The retail industry is generally a very dynamic, fast changing sector. It constitutes one of the main sectors in the economy, in terms of transactions and turnover; as a result, it is a highly competitive and sophisticated industry. As Zara has an international presence in many countries of the World, it is now compulsory for Zara to adopt an online marketing strategy to compete with its competitors, capture and retain more market share and increase profits in this highly competitive environment where every customer is fully informed and equipped with information about the market. Digital marketing is very fast growing and cheap solution to reach maximum customers without any boundaries. Through customised digital marketing where you can convey your message only to potential customers and lots of new customers can be attracted by using different techniques. Todays economy is forcing everyone to search for the best deals they can find. Usually these deals are found on the internet. Digital marketing helps a company to increase its exposure to consumers who are actively seeking your product or service, making it much more effective than other forms of advertising. Increasing your companys exposure through digital marketing is the equivalent of McDonalds only showing you a Big Mac commercial when you are hungry It is targeted, effective, and relevant. Online marketing has many advantages for businesses as well as customers, but on the other hand there are some problems which are related to internet marketing and use of technology and its popularity among your target market. While using online marketing, you do not cut back your companys marketing budget during this economy; instead, focus on spending your marketing budget more effectively by investing in a highly targeted digital marketing campaign. In-fact, this is the best time for businesses to review their marketing strategies and bring internet marketing into focus because of increasing costs of marketing on traditional medias which do not guarantee that you are actually targeting your potential customers. Situation Analysis There are not many businesses which are running without any marketing in this age of communication and technology. If some business is doing good without marketing it dose not mean that the business has captured maximum market and there are no more opportunities to grow. If some business is already doing well, it can do better by launching a marketing campaign and can get more market share. If someone owns a business in todays marketplace, it is not easy to run a business without marketing and not enough to run an advertisement in the local newspaper to maximize the exposure of business. In fact, it is not even enough to run a television commercial on a local broadcasting station because the best marketing tools at anyones disposal have quickly become those associated with online marketing. In fact, if someone starts to explore marketing business via the internet he will quickly find that instead of reaching just a few consumers, he will now have the unique ability to reach both the millions of customers from a global approach and a more specified group of customers that are closer to him as well, a broader appeal than his business may have had previously. He can use social media as a marketplace, and also have a targeted market. Of course, before actually getting the benefits of a wider consumer base there is a need to attract them to the website which is where online marketing tools come into play. Products and services need to be presented in a clear and visually appealing way on the website. The website is a companys store on the internet, the products must be easy to find, priced properly for the market, and delivery methods clearly outlined. Adding a blog element to the website provides fresh content, photos, and innovations to customers, as well as satisfying the search engine criteria for active use and renewal. This also helps search engine placement. Other popular ways to help a business market its website include social media outlets like Facebook, Buzz and Twitter, link building and other search engine optimization tactics, or by using the Google tools like Google Local to increase the online exposure. With the help of all these tools and techniques, where we can promote our website through online marketing, there are some issues related to online presence. Online security is the main concern of the customers who are interested to buy online and want some sort of security that the information they are providing for transaction is safe and will not be misused in future. This matter can be resolved by getting some online security verification certificates and putting them on the website. Other online marketing concerns may be the annoying banner ads on the websites where you are advertising, viral marketing, too much information about the product on the main page which is not necessarily required by every customer, product search problems on the website. On the other hand before launching digital marketing campaign we should be very clear about our customers that do they use internet frequently and do they have proper training and skills to surf the internet easily. As far as Zara is concerned the main target market is people who like fashion and keep themselves updated with latest trends in clothing, so this type of people use internet very frequently to keep them update and interact with the community online most of the time. 2.1- Market Summary By keeping in view the current market trends and situation analysis our plan is to launch an online marketing campaign. Europe, America, Australia and Asia are our main target markets and there is an increasing trend of use of interne in the countries of these continents. We can see the growth rate of internet use and its penetration in last ten years in different regions of the world. With the help of these figures we can easily understand the importance and reach of internet marketing. Most of the market shareholders are now using internet marketing strategy and increasing their market share by giving information about the new products and designs, product offerings and offering buying online facility, business policies related to environment and customers through e-marketing. There are 383 million users of internet in China only and we can target them without spending lots of money on retails outlets all over China. Same is the case with Japan and India where we do not need to open stores in all the cities. We can open our stores in main cities and market our product through internet to other areas where we can find our customers and target them. This is the strategy adopted by most of the successful businesses like Clark, they do not keep all the stock on their out lets and promote their website by asking customers to use their website to see the full range of the products in different categories. 2.2 SWOT Analysis ZARA has 1,608 stores (including 213 ZARA kids stores) in 74 countries, with the companys international growth currently offsetting the economic downturn in the domestic Spanish market. ZARA has a very strong brand image and the number of outlets can be increased with the time and growth. Comparatively high product price is a weakness but we have opportunity to explore markets where we can find customers who want to buy high quality products. Entry of new competitors and non availability of sufficient raw material can be a threat in future. 2.2.1- (S)trengths ZARA has a very strong market Image due to quality, style and availability of products. Product/ Brand Image is also very high because of very high quality, reliable products for children, women and men. Strong financial position of ZARA is also our strength which will help us to invest adequately to get favorable results. Due to strong market position there is availability of finance from other financial institutions like banks. ZARA can benefit in saving the cost from existing infrastructure of suppliers. Vast network and store on different main locations all over the UK, Europe and other regions of the World is also our strength. At this time we have availability of suppliers who can provide us required raw material on good prices and we can build good relations with them for future when the competition will be higher. Online availability of our full catalogue is also our strength and customers can see, choose and make a final decision by just sitting home. 2.2.2- (W)eaknesses High product price is a weakness but we can not compromise on quality and customer services. Due to no marketing strategy and planning the rate of getting market share is very low. Proper management and implementation of the new system can take time. 2.2.3- (O)pportunities New market search is the next step after capturing our existing market we can go to US and central Asian markets more deeply. More innovation, improved quality and value added products for our customers. Adoption of new technology will help us to lower the cost of our products. Research and development department can be made more efficient and strong for product improvement and availability of the products. Improved and more focused customers service. Continuous training of the staff and labor for cost effective production. Strive to exceed the customers expectations through quality, innovation and customers services. Increase in promotional activities through online marketing to get maximum market share. Building relations and long term contracts with the suppliers will be beneficial for future buying. 2.2.4- (T)hreats Entry of new competitors is a threat for our product which can be avoided by building stronger product image in the mind of customer. Unavailability of sufficient raw material because of high number of customers for raw material in the market. In the near future there will be high price of raw material due to increased demand. Availability of raw material in future is another threat and can be managed by involving maximum number of suppliers in the beginning with small quantity orders to all the suppliers. Order quantity can be increased in future as per demand. Low buying power of the customers in existing markets is also a threat and can be managed by searching new markets. 2.3- Competition At this stage if we compare the top high street stores in the UK, most of them, i.e. John Lewis, New Look, Debenhams, MS, next, Bhs, HM, asos, peacocks and topshop are the main stores which are focusing on online presence and are among the top list stores on search engines in fashion and clothing search results. Because Zara is not in putting any effort for online marketing, that is why we do not find it in search results. John Lewis: The retailer has adopted Omniture SearchCenter to optimize paid search marketing.   This combination of products enabled John Lewis Direct to optimize customer preferences throughout the entire acquisition to conversion cycle. John Lewis Direct is a compelling example of a traditional retailer making a success of its online strategy. Millions of customers visit the award-winning John Lewis web site each month and the site has grown consistently at above market rates since its inception in 2001.   In 2008 online sales were up by 24% to  £327m. New Look: The famous and one of the favorite store of ladies for fashion clothing New Look has also understood and adopted the online marketing strategy by putting sponsored links on top search engines, using social websites for close contact with customers and launched their website in 2007. Since the eCommerce launch in December 2007, New Look website has continued to exceed expectations with nearly one million average weekly visitors in March 2009. This is a threefold increase on the same time last year, with average order value continuing to grow. The new web platform is giving customers increased access to the full product range and provides multi-channel capability, enabling customers to order in store for delivery at home. In March 2009 New Look acquired the www.newlook.com domain name and is appraising the potential to utilise this with a mainland European transactional website. This will provide marketing synergies with their international store roll-out to strengthen the brand and offer to customers. Debenhams: Debenhams is also promoting its website through search engine optimization, different blogs and social websites. Most popular websites are D Blog, Face Book, Twitter, Flicker and You Tube. Store is also encouraging Debenhams website visitors to visit these social websites and leave feedback. The Marketing Innovation Group (MIG) launched Debenhams Megaday iBrochure, in 2009, in conjunction with their September New Season Spectacular Sale. This tactical iBrochure mirrored the paper brochure that was available in store and was used to drive online sales and raise awareness. Marks and Spencer: MS has pioneered online video with MS TV (marksandspencer.com/tv), a great example of v-commerce in practice, and proof positive that compelling online video increases sales. Marks and Spencer is known for its innovative online approach, the retailer was keen to find ways of growing its online business while retaining the customers already visiting the site. In addition to enhancing the experience, the channel had to ultimately drive sales. MS TV is a collection of over 500 films divided into 12 channels. Each channel focuses on a particular company theme or business vertical, be it womenswear, menswear, or home. To maintain brand consistency, the channels are managed by a central commissioning team consisting of staff from both MS and Adjust Your Set. This team also plans future content and measures the consumer response. Engagement levels are constantly measured and regular refinements are made in order to improve the quality of the editorial and the rates of conversion. If viewers drop off before the end of video or certain links are not being clicked, then further changes are made. Keeping in view the above information Zara has a very big market to capture and this is the best time to develop and implement the new marketing strategy to enhance the market share in near future. 2.4- Product Offerings Zara offers an exclusive coordinated collection of stylish clothes, shoes and accessories for women. Collections for men, children and the home quickly followed. Zaras clothes are styled by the in-house design team to offer consistency of style, quality and value for money with a contemporary fashion edge. 2.5- Distribution Zara has a very strong network of retail stores in the UK, Europe, America, Asia, and Africa for the distribution of its products all over the World. Other than retail stores we have also introduced a fully functional website with our latest products, designs and offerings. The online store is also contributing successfully for the distribution of the products to the customers. 3.0 Marketing Strategy 3.1- Objectives Challenging but achievable objective has been set for next three years. Because of the overall condition of the economy which is not that good, result in the first year can be a bit slow. First-year Objective: In the first year we will maximize the awareness about the brand and availability of the product. We have already launched a page on facebook.com and more than 3,676,000 people like that page from all over the World. Website will be promoted through other major social networking websites, blogs, emails and in-store advertisement. Search engine optimization and data updating process will be performed more efficiently to keep the website at the top in search results on different search engines. Secure online selling will also be introduced in first year which will help to improve the growth rate. The growth rate will be increased from 6% of 2009 to 10% at the end of first year. Second-year Objective: In the second year we shall be doing well and will be on the first page of most popular search engines. In the second year more focus will be on introduction of innovative technology, make over and use of latest web technology to attract the visitors. The estimated growth rate in second year is expected to rise by 7% due to opening in new markets of Australia and Africa. Online selling will be offered to Australian customers in this year. Third-year Objective: Third year, 2012 2013, will be a year of revival for world economy, hopefully and we shall capture the market by 25%. For Europe aggressive marketing strategy will be adopted to get maximum market share. Online selling will be launched in major Asian countries to facilitate our valuable customers and to maximize market share. 3.2- Target Markets Target market of Zara is middle to high class men; woman and children who like to update themselves with latest fashion and style and want higher quality clothing on reasonable prices. With the help of online marketing it will be easier for Zara to convey information about new designs and fashion to its target markets in different parts of the World within no time because Zaras target market consists of the people who use internet frequently and update themselves with latest fashion. Zaras women collection is divided into three categories: Zara Women, Zara Basic and the sporty Trafaluc representing market segments for women who look for a more formal style, younger women for a more informal style and younger women and teenagers while menswear included Mens Line at Zara, Zara Basics, its club-wear brand 100Zara and Zara Sport. In this sense the general public from all age groups can be seen as potential customers targeted by specific sub-brands of Zara. A second important variable in defining segmentation is based on psychographic characteristics such as lifestyle, as one of the most famous and successful European brands Zara in its existing market targeted people who were especially interested in European styles at affordable price levels. 3.3- Positioning Zara is a high fashion concept offering apparel, footwear and accessories for women, men and children, from newborns to adults aged 45. Zara stores offer a unique blend of fashion, quality and price offered in attractive stores in prime locations on premier commercial streets and in main shopping centres. The in-house design and production capabilities enable us to offer fresh designs at out Zara stores twice a week throughout the year. 3.4- Marketing Mix 3.4.1- Product Zara has a tradition to launch its products in a short time of two weeks and full change in clothing item every month. The product is of very high quality and we will give a full guarantee of color, stitching, stuff, cloth quality and material used to our valuable customers. No metals shall be used for the product packing and recycled material will be used for packing of our products. 3.4.2- Pricing Zara maintained its long standing practice of providing customers with certainty over pricing. Zara has adopted a competitive pricing strategy to gain and retain customers. Competitive pricing is the most suitable for Zara because of its presence globally. This pricing strategy helps Zara to attract more customers on the high street fashion stores. 3.4.3- Distribution Zara has a very strong distribution setup which is very helpful to make available the product all over the retail chain. In my point of view Zara should start its production locally instead of producing in Spain and then deliver the products to stores all over the World because this change in strategy will help to reduce the cost of production. We do not need to bring raw material from other countries to Spain first and send finished items back to the same countries. By setting up local production houses we can also build good relationship with our suppliers, local community by offering jobs to local people, and our customers. 3.4.4- Marketing Communications Promotional activity at high street will continue aggressively and with in-store display, through online marketing and our website. For online marketing communication the first step is to update the website and its contents at the back of website like key words, key phrases and mata tags so that the search engines can find our website quickly and easily whenever anyone search for items we are dealing with. An interactive website is most appropriate idea in the current marketing situation. With the help of cookies we will gather lots of data about our customers and their preferences. Email marketing will also help us to generate more profit by attracting more customers to our website. As it is discussed earlier different social website pages like facebook, twitter, youtube, and flicker etc. are the main source of communication with customers these days. We will also communicate with our existing and potential customers by setting up different blogs and through our own website. Paid advertisements on most popular search engines like google, bing, yahoo, aol etc. is another option so that we can come at the top of search results in very short time. 3.5- Marketing Research Through different marketing research techniques like web analysis and online feed back from our valuable customers we will keep upgrading our product and system and will analyze and evaluate our existing strategy. Web analytical tools will also be helpful to get information about website visitors and their style of search and required products. Customers complaints and record of customer services department is also very helpful to improve the product and product delivery system. 4.0 Financial Matters In the first year by keeping the objective of 10% growth rate in view the projected sale for Zara in the first year is à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬11,750 million. Currently Zaras share in total group sale is 63.8% (2009). The total sale of the group in 2009 was à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬11,084 Million. Results for the Year Ended January 2009: * Group revenues (in thousands of Euros): 11,083,514 * Group operating profit EBITDA (in thousands of Euros): 2,374,189 * Earnings per share (in Euro cents): 211.4 15 million is estimated expense for first year marketing including salaries of marketing staff. For online marketing, most of the work, like making profiles on different social websites, tagging, adding key words and meta tags on the back of website, can be done through qualified staff of the company who will be responsible for the updating and maintenance of the website. So, for that there is no need to pay extra money to any third party. To advertise through search engines we will pay a nominal amount per year to major search engines and they will promote our website. Pay per click is another option which is also offered by most of the websites where we advertise. 5.0 Controls 5.1- Implementation Zara as a market leader in fashion wear always focus on product quality and customer services. Our more than 92,000 staff members are always ready to improve the system and implement new strategies. With the help of internal and external controls the top management will be in a better position to evaluate the performance and upgrade the system accordingly. We are always in a process to improve our products and services and we are always open to hear from our customers. Zara already continues to improve customer service and with the introduction of new service of online shopping we are facilitating our customers to buy anytime with their convenience. 5.2- Marketing organization International Marketing Director GM Marketing for Rest of the Countries GM Marketing Europe UK Sr. Manager Marketing Manager Advertising Advertising Analyst Manager Promotion Promotion Analyst Manager Sales Market Research Analyst Manager Advertising Advertising Analyst Manager Promotion Promotion Analyst Manager Sales

Playing Hard to Get Essay

Walster, Walster, Piliavin, & Schmidt have designed a study to test the why women play hard to get when to comes to dating. This article is talks about how there are two different types of women when it comes to relationships. One type is the easy to get and hard to get. Easy to get women are girls who are either desperate for affection, who might have to many demands for their significant other, may want to get serious right away and possibly may have a disease. Whereas, the hard to get women have something about them that every guy would want to be with, she knows she is pretty and that every guy would do anything for her. A women knows in her mind, playing hard to get will make any man go through all kinds of trouble or challenges just trying to please her and hopefully making the girl like him or even falling in love with him. If a guy, can get to be with her it’s like winning a gold prize and gaining respect from all kinds of men because they can recognize that the girl is a hard to get girl. The experimenters tested 5 different experiments to test and see if any theories can prove about these hard to get girls. Experiment I was the dissonance theory was the first experiment was to predict to see if one had to spend a lot of energy to attain one goal because he would be unappreciative of the outcome. Experiment II was the learning theory was next to see if two advantages were attainable: exclusiveness with value and frustration that will increase drive. Experiment III was the Schachtarian theory requires two components just like the learning theory to test the person for calling it love. Both Walsters & Lyons designed a field study and a laboratory experiment in to demonstrate that men prefer a date that plays hard to get. Computer matching service was conducted for women to be hired as experimenters. Precise instructions was given on how to respond when their computer match called them for a date by pausing to think for at least 3 seconds accepting the date, which would be labeled hard to get. Other times women were told to accept the date immediately, to be labeled as easy to get. The results indicated that elusiveness had no impact on the man’s liking for his computer. Experiment IV was a laboratory experiment that tested the knowledge that a woman is elusive gives one indirect evidence that she is socially desirable. This indirect evidence should have the biggest impact when a man has no way of acquiring direct evidence about a coed’s value or when he has little confidence in his own ability to assess value. When direct evidence is available, and the man possesses supreme confidence in his ability to make correct judgments, information about a woman’s elusiveness should have little impact on a man’s reaction to her. Blind dates were being tested to see if this came true. Experiment V, we had decided that perhaps the hard-to-get hypothesis must be tested in a sexual setting with prostitutes that gave the men mixed drinks that will see if the hard to get hypothesis is true. Later this experiment resulted that there is two components: How hard or easy she is for him to get & how hard or easy she is for other men to get. To test this, 71 male summer students at the University of Wisconsin were recruited for a dating research project. This was designed to determine whether computer matching techniques are in fact more effective than is random matching. All participants were invited to come into the dating center in order to choose a date from a set of five potential dates. When the subject arrived at the computer match office, they were handed folders containing background information on five women. Some of these women had supposedly been â€Å"randomly† matched with him and others had been â€Å"computer matched† with him but in reality, all five folders contained information about fictitious women. Experiments asked if they liked her, would you get along, first impressions and questions of that nature. All these results of their hypothesis turned out to be false but learned new information of women being hard to get. In my own opinion, the experiments did their best to test this phenomenon regardless of how old this article is because till this day, a hard to get women is described as someone who requires a lot of work in order to talk or to be seen with. Being with a women gives the man a lot of respect because start to question to figure out what does a man have to do to be such a girl with high standards. These experiments are valid even though they have failed but have demonstrated how these women work when playing hard to get. When it comes to girls, men are usually clueless because there are no set rules on how they react or how to keep them happy. Any interaction with women are general is an experiment because it involves a lot of variables, different possibilities of what the men can say leading to various reactions from the women. A follow up study can be done because this article is over 20 years old but it may just strengthen the results of this article. A study of how or why women act hard to get in the first place, their intentions or see if there are any tricks to get by these kinds of women. Experiment V was the best experiment to test by randomly selecting girls for the men and seeing what their likes and dislikes were when women were being hard to get. Men today have changed a lot when these experiments have taken place according to society at that time. I feel that these experimenters did all they could with their limited technology and how boys and girls acted in that time frame. Nowadays, women explore all options of being hard to get and easy to get by mixing it to fully get what they want and that drives men insane because we tend to get clueless of how things work. This article is valid of what has been tested and outcomes that of that women playing hard to get is still unknown till this day.

Stereotypes: An Interview

The other day I had a discussion with my roommate about the social psychological idea of stereotyping. I found it interesting how much I felt like she was contradicting herself. But in my opinion, I do not find it surprising that she did, because I feel like most people at the point in our lives (college students) do try and not prejudge people, but do anyway. When I asked how guilty she felt she was about stereotyping people, she said it depends on what she s stereotyping, but she does not feel like she does it too much. She also said she does not feel like she belongs in a particular social group and she also feels like there are exceptions in some stereotypical groups. For example, if there were a group of black guys standing on the street, some people would automatically assume that they were up to no good. But my roommate feels like if she saw this group with one of the guys dressed nicely, she could point him out as one exception the one who would probably not be doing any harm. When I asked if she treats people differently right away because of how she has prejudged them, she answered that she does not treat them differently and that she tries not to prejudge at all. However, she does pick out a stereotypical group for a stranger before she meets them, a lot of times, and they do normally end up being what she expects. This proves the theory of the self- fulfilling prophecy to be correct. Whereas some people still tend to put some people they do know as well as strangers into stereotypical groups, my roommate does not. She said once she gets to know someone, on the acquaintance level, she does not stereotype them as much and does not really feel that they belong to a certain groups such as the preps or the jocks. And she also feels that getting to know the person does have an effect on how she feels because the more I get to know them, the less I stereotype them. When I asked if she thought any groups should have a higher self esteem because of what group they seem to be placed with (i. e. snobs or nerds ), she said no, as long as each person is doing everything they can do to keep their lives running well. On the topic of sex she feels that there are extreme stereotypes between men and women. I feel it has gone down over the years, but it definitely still exists; it could be improved; and women are degraded. She really believes there should be equality in every aspect of life between the sexes. However, she sees one stereotype about women that she can agree with is that women are a lot easier to talk to, and are more open-minded and liberal than men. On the topic of race, she feels as though all races judge and stereotype each other such as whites thinking all blacks are on welfare. She said in the case of race, she agrees with some of the stereotypes, but only because she feels that they are based on facts and evidence. Such as, a larger percentage of whites have jobs and less whites are on welfare than other races. But despite all this, she does not overall agree with stereotyping races. In conclusion, when I asked if she thinks the activity of stereotyping will ever end, she said, No, I don t believe stereotyping will ever entirely end. She also said that people should make an effort to see past all stereotypes, good or bad.

Banking Industry in Nigeria - 5028 Words

THE BANKING INDUSTRY AND THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY POST-CONSOLIDATION By B. B. EBONG GROUP MANAGING DIRECTOR/CHIEF EXECUTIVE UNION BANK OF NIGERIA PLC ABSTRACT Against the backdrop of the role of banks as financial intermediaries and their function as the engine of growth of the economy, this paper examines the extent to which the banking industry has helped to stimulate economic activities in Nigeria and what the prognosis looks like in the post-consolidation era. The paper notes that the banking industry in Nigeria witnessed a remarkable growth in terms of deposit base, number of branches, total asset and volume of loans and advances, especially since the de-regulation of the financial services sector in the last quarter of 1986. However,†¦show more content†¦Furthermore, banks act as a conduit for the transmission of monetary policy. They provide a veritable platform when it comes to the implementation of monetary, credit, foreign exchange, and other financial sector policies of the government. Among other things, monetary policy is designe d to influence the cost and availability of loanable funds with a view to promoting non-inflationary growth. The instruments available to the Central Bank to achieve this include open market operations (OMO), the cash reserve ratio (CRR), liquidity ratio (LR) and of course, moral suasion. The capacity of the banking industry to perform these functions effectively is, to a large extent, determined by the financial health of the individual institutions themselves and soundness and viability of the industry as a whole. Against this background, the objective of this presentation is to examine the extent to which the banking industry has helped to stimulate economic activities in Nigeria and what the prognosis looks like in the post-consolidation era, come January 2006.
